A lot of reviews

          I've been busy this month so unfortunately I haven't had much to for reviews. So instead of doing a lot of reviews with synopsis, I'm doing many reviews in one post, and cutting out most if not all of the synopsis and spoilers that I put in my usual reviews.

Booster Gold #44

This is a character and a series that I haven't really had much experience with. The series always looked good, and the character always looked interesting. With Flashpoint on the way I decided to finally check out the time traveling Superhero, thinking that this would be a good jumping on point. I was correct. I loved this issue. For anyone who wants to jump on to Booster Gold this is the issue to do it. It even has one or two pages devoted to recapping Booster Gold's origin.  While I do see how that could be annoying to a long time fan, this was very good for someone who is jumping on. It was a little confusing when it started in on Flashpoint, but frankly I think that is just because the whole idea of Flashpoint is complicated. I'm not a big fan of this idea, I think the new Flash series is too young for a big event like this, but it worked well for this issue

Green Lantern Emerald Warriors #9

I know that I'm slightly behind on War of the Green Lanterns, but this issue was still amazing. The entire story of War of the Green Lanterns has been thrilling. The way people like Tomasi have been able to create a story that really had kind of already been done before (Hal turning Yellow, and Guy turning Red) but still make it very exciting is remarkable. When it comes to comic books being powerful or emotional this comic, story line, and not really even series fit the qualifications. But all of the Green Lantern stories, especially War of the Green Lanterns are just fun reads. This particular issue was nothing great, although it was cool to see Guy Gardner with Krona's Gauntlet, and also to see the Guardian entities again, but next issue when the Guardian entities attack will really be something fun to read.

Doctor Who Classics #3

I've always been a huge fan of Doctor Who especially the old doctors (although Matt Smith is one of the more amazing Doctors I've ever seen. He might actually be my favorite.) So this series really excited me. A whole series about just classic Doctors, what's not to love? I really enjoyed how this issue started and finished a story. I was happy not to see a long drawn out arc, but instead it was done just like an episode of Doctor Who. It was incredibly well done. The writing and art were nothing spectacular, the real appeal for this comic is the feel of it, the fact that you feel like you are reading a Sci-Fi story. Doctor Who and Classic Sci-Fi fans alike should definitely pick this issue up.

Green Lantern Corps #56

          I read Green Lantern issue 54 and reviewed it. I said that I loved it and I would definitely read the next one. What I said was true I did absolutely love that comic, but I never had a chance to read next one. Finally I picked it up and its sequel, and because I try not to review comics whose sequel has already come out, I'm reviewing this issue.
          In this issue Sinestro sends the entire Sinestro corps to go fight the Weponer. All members of the Green Lantern Corps that are on Qward have had their rings confiscated by the Weponer. While they were tied up up Ganthet threw up red (rage) blood and Atrocitus appears in the blood saying that Ganthet should have stayed on earth. He then explained that, he allowed this to happen because he had to communicate with Atrocitus in  a fool proof manner. Then the Sinestro corps starts attacking, and Qward needs more defenders. The Weponer gives them their rings back and they make shields. If they fire at the Sinestro corps they will break the treaty, so they power down and start hitting with out their rings. John Stewart leads Qward's warriors inside the Weponer's bunker, they arm themselves and get ready to fight.
         I loved this issue as well. There is some clean feeling to the Green Lantern Corps series, not just with the colors and art, but also with the writing and the stories. It's one of the things that makes this series so enjoyable. People fighting with power rings is cool, especially when it's an army of Yellow Lanterns against some Green Lanterns, but the idea of an entire race arming themselves against the Yellow Lanterns and the Green Lanterns throwing punches against the monsters that are the Yellow Lanterns, is just cool. I hope this doesn't become a recurring theme, it's cool once in a while, but if abused will become very boring, very fast. An arc could be written about being ringless but that is about it. I don't really know why Tony Bedard decided to pick this issue to reveal what happened with Ganthet and Atrocitus, it has very little importance to the story, in fact the first time I wrote the synopsis I forgot to include it. But besides that little hiccup, the book was flawless.

Justice Society of America #47

           I really like this series, especially the recent issues. The whole terror wins idea has been brilliant, it had intellectual value, a tone of character development, and it was a very good read. The entire series in general has been great. It made number four in my top five ongoing series of 2010. Not only was that based on the terror wins arc, but the winds of war arc was also fantastic. Overall I've been very happy with this series.
          In this issue Man Hunter (while stopping a robbery) sees something about the JSA on TV. People were debating whether Super-Heroes are good for the world, or bad. Then she sees the Flash make a statement about how bad the crime is in monument point. Dr. Midnight goes to see Alan Scott, but he's not there any more. Then Flash brings him to Lightning and tells him that Dr. Fate took her soul and is protecting it, but her body is dead. Dr. Chaos then tells Mr. Terrific to release Scythe, and that he knows his IQ is dropping. Then Dr. Midnight and Wild Cat confront Dr. Chaos who says that he has a device that will kill a certain number of randomly selected people. But the Flash runs and takes the device, but then Scythe comes in and the comic ends.
         I have one problem with this issue, for some reason whenever I read a JSA comic they always find a way to get rid of Dr. Fate. This thing with Lightning gets him out of the picture so that Guggenheim can focus on Mr. Terrific and the Flash like he usually does. Guggenheim is a good writer, but I would like it if he took some risks and wrote some stories that had Dr. Fate as the lead. He's an incredibly interesting character that always seems to get shoved aside. I do see how Guggenheim could have Dr. Fate in this new soul place and so the main characters are him and lightning, but judging just on the covers of upcoming issues it looks like Guggenheim is going to stick with Green Lantern.
       I enjoyed the rest of this issue thoroughly. Dr. Chaos is a great villain, and so is Scythe, and the way Dr. Chaos interacts with other members of the JSA is great. I even like Mr. Terrific's loss in IQ, otherwise this would be a short and boring series, he would trace Dr. Chaos and put him in prison and then we would all move on to the next arc, but because he is becoming "dumber" the arc is much better. It prolongs parts of it, and adds other parts.
      This was another great issue, but the series would be much improved if Dr. Fate was in it more, opposed to his usual one page appearances, followed by people talking about where he went and why.

Green Lantern/ Plastic Man #1

         Recently I've been reading a lot of Green Lantern, and Plastic Man has always been one of my favorite characters, so this comic looked like the best thing that could ever exist, and that is why I picked it up.
        In this issue Plastic Man goes to Green Lantern and says that he got attacked by some weird alien weapons, and that he needs Green Lantern's help. Green Lantern decides to help. They disguise them selves as gangsters and try to investigate. They find that some of the gangsters in the bar are going to work for the aliens. Plastic Man then gets caught, and tortured by the aliens. Green Lantern disguised as a fly goes and frees Plastic Man when the aliens leave. The aliens turn out to be ducks from outer space, and Green Lantern contacts the good ducks. They disguise themselves as gangsters again and infiltrate the meeting the ducks are having with their gangster troops. Plastic Man and Green Lantern reveal that the ducks are trying to take over the world, and the gangsters turn against them, and the ducks lose and the gangsters promise to go clean.
         As far as I know, Green Lantern can't turn into a fly, or anything. The dialogue in this story was also weak. Now that I think of it this story was probably made for children, but when I read it. Plastic Man is such a powerful and interesting character, and yet he has been reduced to children's books for a while, for this and his last series. The Plastic Man in Batman the Dark Knight Strikes again is the ideal Plastic Man. One that is funny and annoying, but also is one of the more powerful people in the entire DC universe. Honestly I can't really judge the comic because it was made for a much younger audience so this grade is focused on how DC uses Plastic Man. Although I do have to say, even if this is a children's story don't use an evil alien race of ducks, give the story a little more credit than that.

Green Lantern Corps #54

          I've been on and off with Green Lantern. I have had trouble deciding whether or not it is worth sticking with, and instead of picking up Green Lantern this time, I decided to try Green Lantern Corps instead, mainly because I liked the cover.
          In this issue Sinestro is fuming because Kyle Rayner  punched him. They decide to fight without rings. Sinestro wins, by a lot. Rayner reveals that he punched Sinestro to get his attention because Soranik Natu has been captured by a Weponer. This Weponer blames Sinestro for his exile, he made the original yellow ring and gave it to Sinestro. Sinestro got greedy came back and killed the warriors of Qward and made the Weponers make yellow rings until they died. So now this particular Weponer (who was exiled for making the first yellow ring) is exiled and blames Sinestro for it. But when lanterns come, it's a group of Green Lanterns, not Sinestro.
           As I said before the cover is what attracted me to this issue, and it was a very good cover. I also really liked the story, it had a perfect sinestro. Tony Bedard managed to make Sinestro just "jerky" enough. The ringless fight between Rayner and Sinestro just seemed like a way to put in a cool fight scene, and it was cool, but after I read it the scene just seemed contrived. I really liked the simplicity of the issue. It had a very simple and easy to understand story, that just made the issue a fun read. Honestly I've never liked Soranik Natu, or Kyle Rayner, but after this issue I have decided to reconsider. They were both written very well. Along with the Weponers, the only time I've really seen them before is in Green Lantern First Flight, and this was a very different approach to them, and both approaches were very good.
         This issue was very good, and I'm definitely going to pick up the next one.

Justice Society of America #45

          I've really liked this series. I loved the arc with the Fourth Reich, I must admit I skipped this whole star heart business, and so far I've liked this new arc. It could be because I've always loved the Justice Society of America, and the past couple arcs have been really important, but it could also be that the past couple arcs have just been written very well.
        This issue starts with the Flash and Green Lantern on a mission during WWII. The mission was to destroy the  "Drachen Project."When they finally find the "Drachen Project" it turns out to be a baby. The Flash wants to kill it, but Green Lantern wont let him. Meanwhile (back in present day) heroes are helping with clean up of Monument Point. The citizens of the city come and yell at the Flash for not caring. Then a senator reveals that the terrorist that just destroyed the city, is the Drachen child. Elsewhere Green Lantern wakes up in the hospital and finds that he's paralyzed.
          This was a very good issue. It was really full of emotion from all of the characters with Jay Garrick getting yelled at by the people he was trying to save, and Alan Scott being paralyzed. Although as I said before, Jay Garrick being yelled at would have been better if I hadn't seen it so many times before. Although, this time, it was better than in Superman, or Green Lantern. It was the art, and one panel where a man is really yelling that made it better. Also the anger and disgust Flash showed toward the senator was done very well, as was the scene with Alan Scott. This comic does a good job of showing a big part of the JSA, and that is their past experience, especially WWII. It really bridges the gap between old comics, which were about fighting for America, against a foreign enemy, and todays comics, which are about terrorists. A huge part of this comic was the art. The writing was good, but with out Scott Kolins, and Mike Atiyeh, this comic wouldn't be nearly as good. They found a way to express emotion so well that even without the words in the story, I would be able to tell what the character was feeling. I also like that the terrorist did succeed, he was caught, but he still inflicted fear in the DCU, which was really his goal. This is much like the superhero version of 9/11. When the terrorist strikes there is nothing to do, but rebuild. This issue showed that perfectly.
           I'm caught between two things to say about this comic. I don't know weather to call it a extremely good one that you should look at, or a must buy. I'm somewhere in between right now, but definitely look at this issue.

Justice Society of America #44

          I know I haven't reviewed a Justice Society of America for a while, but that's because I skipped the whole "Star Heart" thing. If you look back on my archive of reviews you will see Justice League of America #45 which I absolutely hated. Coincidently it was the lead up to the whole Star Heart event, so I skipped the whole arc. However, before that arc, there was an arc about the Fourth Reich, and I loved that story line, so that's why I didn't just drop the Justice Society all together.
       In this issue Jay Garrick announces that he will retire soon because he had just been elected mayor in his town. But Alan Scott won't let him. Mean while Mr. Terrific keeps taking IQ tests and his score is gradually falling. Then the entire JSA  is called into battle because some super powered terrorist breaks out of a CIA prison in Afghanistan. Green Lantern goes to arrest the man/thing but the terrorist ends up knocking him down. Thats when everything breaks. Dr. Fate puts Green Lantern in a hospital, and the rest of the team beats the terrorist, but in doing that they destroyed the city, and then we find Green Lantern is paralyzed from the hips down.
        I'm just going to say right out front that this is a great issue and I would conceder it a must buy. The writing and story were both great, and the art was "iffy" at first but then improve ten fold. I really loved the idea of the terrorist winning. It pretty much took 9/11 and threw it into a comic book. Now something like that could have easily been overdone or underdone, but Marc Guggenheim did it perfectly, so that you can see the resemblance, and still have it be a good story. I'm not really a fan of the fact that Mr. Terrific's intelligence is going down, because that would just ruin the character, and this is one of those moment where I'm just waiting for them to fix it. It's kind of like a "made you look" kind of thing. It happens more than I would like. Besides that my only other complaint is not using more of the JSA members, like Dr. Midnight. Especially him, because I really think that having a medical person around during the time where Alan Scott gets paralyzed would have been better. Actually that's what I thought was going to happen because Dr. Midnight is even on the cover of the comic. I'm very exited for the rest of this arc, especially because the end of this issue leads to so many more opportunities. Now the world is going to turn against the JSA and even though I've seen that before, combining that with the terrorist winning and you have a really good arc.
            Like I said before this is a MUST BUY.

Green Lantern #54

         This issue is a sort of meanwhile... for Brightest Day. It starts where Brightest Day issue one started. Hal Jordan, Sinestro and Carol still can't lift the White Lantern battery. When all three of them try, the White Lantern goes crazy and says "HELP ME LIVE," it also tells the three lanterns to find all of the Entities. This issue also looks like it is going to connect with the Legion of Superheroes. Something, which I think is a guardian gave Sodam Yat some undisclosed gift, and turns Daxam's sun back into a red sun killing many. Then the story shifts to Atrocitus who kills a bunch of muggers, when he starts spilling blood onto a page to locate the Entities he notices Ion and Parallax aren't there, that is when Sinestro, Hal, and Carol come in. Hal starts fighting Atrocitus when Lobo comes in and takes out Hal Jordan.
       This comic reminds me of a very common expression, "They don't make them like that any more." This comic was fantastic. Even though there were many sections to this comic, each one was clear, so it wasn't confusing, nor was it boring. So this comic was good, but I'm not a big fan of Brightest Day. Many people have been told to find all the people that the White Lantern brought back. Many of these people can fly, and the one's who don't have other means of transportation, why doesn't any one find them? Any way... I really like the idea of the Entities. A bunch of creatures who are actually living emotions... cool. The only part that I found confusing was the Sodam Yat thing. Who was the guy in the black robe? What was his gift? And how is this going to tie into Legion of Superheroes? (I know it will) Also the art was beautiful. You can open this book at any page and it will jump out at you like fire works.
 I might subscribe to this series too, I haven't read it in a while, but I really like this series, so maybe.

Justice Society of America #39

                This story arch has been great, I  loved it. It has been sad, happy, secretive ect. All the good things that a comic nerd could ever hope for. In this issue it shows how the "no power" shield thing, gets pulled back every so often so that the "Super Nazis" can take over the rest of the world. One day the R.E.B.L.E.S and several members of the Green Lantern corps (including Kilowog) tried to attack when the shield was down, it was immediately put back up and they all fell to earth, dead. That makes Mr. Terrific angry and all the locked up superheroes rise up, some teams go on escape duty. They all die. Some go to shut down the shield generator, Mt. Terrific gets their. When he is at the controls he suddenly stress' out and I think he forgets the sequence. Then it flashes back to Mr. Terrific in a hospital bead, and Dr. Midnight saying that he is dead. TO BE CONTINUED.
             Again I love this story arch, but it has been going on for way to long, just end. If it doesn't end next month expect a rant on my blog. I did like this comic a lot, but I really wanted it to be the concluding issue. Although I suppose that they are trying to get it so that they can continue the series, with more than one character, so that's good. Also this is the only monthly issue of a Superhero comic that has made me sad. Just watching all the heroes fall down dead is just plain sad. But that is another thing that makes this arch so great.

Bruce Wayne Returns #'s 1&2

              Popular consensus was that this series wasn't any good. I really thought they were wrong, I thought this series was going to be really good, Bruce Wayne returning, Grant Morrison, how could this go wrong. It already started with an advantage (at least for me) because I really want Bruce Wayne to come back. But these comics were really disappointing.
The first issue is set in the time of the cavemen , for some reason there is a rocket stuck in the ground with Superman's cape in it. Eventually someone throws a rock in a cave, this makes Bruce Wayne come out. None of the Cavemen can speak well, except one named Boy. Batman can't speak at all. Eventually a tribe who is lead by Vandal Savage comes out and starts to attack the tribe that is looking after Batman. The "Savage tribe" defeats the Batman tribe and takes Batman prisoner. Boy dresses in a mask and goes to rescue Batman, once rescued Bruce Wayne and the Bat tribe defat the "Savage tribe." When running away Boy and Batman have to jump in a lake, after doing so Batman winds up in the same spot, just around the time of the Salem Witch Trails. It also happens that Booster Gold, Superman, Green Lantern, and Rip Hunter are all looking for Wayne, and they arrived just after Bruce left.
           When Bruce Wayne came out of the cave, I was so happy. As you may know I've been waiting for this ever since Bruce Wayne "died." However the rest of this comic was a let down. I was disappointed that nobody could speak, not even Batman, and the scene with the cavemen introducing themselves went on for way to long. This is one of the only comics I struggled to get through. I love the Idea but the comic its self was really bad.
           In the second issue the time period is during the Salem Witch Trials. Superman, Green Lantern, Booster Gold and Rip Hunter are still looking for Wayne and they go to this sort of... Library of time thing, that is supposed to blow up the time stream, it's very confusing I had no Idea of what was going on. Down on earth Wayne woke up in the same spot just with like Kraken like thing attacking him, after Batman goes unconscious, he wakes up in a small house which belongs to a girl who has necklaces with Wonder woman's and Superman's logos on them. Batman is going by the name Mordecai (he still has no idea of who he is) who was apparently in this town from Boston to help "root out witches." Then the story goes back to the Logo Girl, who is apparently a friend of nature. I did like the next part. Batman is standing to have his portrait done, it is the same picture that Dick Grayson will investigate later. But some angry town people come and show him the Kraken which they keep calling a dragon. Back at the Time Library the evil librarian turns out to be Bruce Wayne and if he goes back to his own time period he will "kill every one." On earth  Wayne is going to the lake to fight the Kraken when the girl tells him that he is not Mordecai but just some other guy that appeared, then Batman gets sucked in to the lake and he wakes up on Black Beard's ship.
           Confusing right? So was the comic. The only thing that was good about this comic (besides the picture) was the fact that I'm one issue closer to having Bruce Wayne back. The plot was so confusing and all of the characters look the same, I counted to see how many pages were left in this book, this is slightly worse than Justice League #45, and I didn't think that was possible.

Justice League of America #45

               I didn't know I was subscribed to this, but apparently I am, so here I go. In this issue something is wrong with the JSA's Green Lantern (Allan Scott ) and nobody can figure out what  it is. Meanwhile Jade is resisting arrest by some German Commandoes. They want to bring her in and questing her about a glowing green meteor that she apparently brought to earth. She explains that the meteor brought her to earth, and not the other way around, and that it is called the "Starheart" which is like concentrated Green Lantern power. That's when the JSA arrive, Alan Scott, who is still in a trance, was drawn to the "Starheart" and the Society fallowed. Then for some reason Power Girl flies in and starts smashing things, but then Supergirl flies in and starts smashing Power Girl. Batman eventually figures out that Jade's power is half magic, so could be used to stop Power Girl. Jade then explains that the "Starheart" was made when the guardians locked up a great deal of the chaotic elements, but they had to contain it with pure green energy.
Then all magic using heroes around the world go insane

This comic was bad, plain in simple, it was bad. The dialogue was corny, the plot was also bad. I did like the art, colors and the fact that they mentioned Kryptonian's weakness to magic. But the majority of it was horrible. I would not recommend this comic to anyone, except someone I wanted to hurt.  This  was hell that disguised its self as a comic book. It's not as bad as Fantastic Four 576, but it was bad.

Legion of Super-Heroes #1

                  This comic was great. As soon as I heard about this series I subscribed without blinking an eye. I liked the old series of this team, but I read a couple issues of a newer series and didn't like it. This issue blew me away. There were several issues mentioned from past series, but Paul Levits always made sure that the reader knew what was going on.
                  The synopsis is that there is a guy named Earth-Man who apparently when all out on the Legion and attacked them, so he was imprisoned and punished. Earthgov demanded that Earth-Man becomes a member of the Legion, so Brainiac 5 made a ring that kept Earth-Man "on a leash." Meanwhile Saturn Girl visits her world of Titan where she goes into her diary room and talks about Lightning Lad abandoning her. Then some people who aren't really explained build this machine where you can see back in time, but they try to see the beginning of the universe, this action kills them and destroys several machines, such as the one maintaining Titan. So there is a rescue mission to save every one, they save several people but many people die. Also there is a guy named Sodam Yat, who is still on OA (which is a dead planet) all alone, when this blue little blob which looks like a mini guardian comes out, flies to earth and tells Earth-Man he is now Green Lantern of sector 2814.
                  All right, this story was kind of hard to understand, but when you read it, it'll make perfect sense. I understand what Levits was trying to do with the whole you must choose thing, but that would have been more dramatic if it was a good guy, not a villain. Otherwise this comic was flawless. This probably happened a while ago, but I still didn't like it. When did Brainiac 5 become a living thing and not an android? Otherwise why would he be called Brainiac 5? Actually there is one more flaw, predictability. I know Earth-Man is going to pick the Legion, other wise he wouldn't be featured at all in the series.
                  I like what Levits has done with the series, and I'm exited to read more, but I also like what he has kept from the Legion that I have grown to know and love. Although I wonder how long this series will last. I hope it is not short lived, but I have my fears.

Brightest Day #1

           This comic is just a bunch of separate stories, and I'm guessing thats how the series is going to be, and they make it work but it is hard to review.The sword and the stone has reached the Detective Comic Universe. Will, Love, not even fear can lift the white lantern power battery. After attempts by Sinestro and Hal Jordan the comic shifts to Deadman who is busy destroying his own headstone. (remember he is alive now) A white ring forces its self onto his ring and takes him to see the ex-black lanterns. It looks like Deadman is going to be the white lantern, which is just very cool. After that there is some stuff about people finding Hawkman and Hawkgirl's original bones, what I found surprising was that Hawkman's original bones were the famous pharaoh Khufu. Also there is Aquaman fighting on a ship, but for some reason he can only summon dead aquatic creatures. (like when he was a black lantern) To be honest I have no idea what is happening with Firestorm, I don't know that much about him, but I'm happy he is back. Lastly you see Black Manta go berserk and kill several people who are admiring Aquaman, but thats about it. Oh...I almost forgot, Martian Manhunter found a water supply on Mars and is nurturing it and trying to bring life back to Mars. I hope he fails, If there were more Martians he would lose his loneliness which is a big part of his character. I hope they don't make the same mistake that they made with Superman.

Green Arrow #32

           To quote the  blog, Jason Todd's comic blog "Why is the art so bad?" The cover was really good, and the inside art looks like what a five year old could draw. It had little to no detail on the faces, and the characters all looked distorted.
           The comic its self was bad. They decided to ruin the Green Arrow, by telling everyone his secret identity. That only works for people like Steve Rogers and Wally West, not Ollie Queen. In this comic, it shows how the Green Arrow killed Prometheus and went to jail for it. Until trial  when a short, tacky speech given by himself  saved his tail, although he was exiled from the city. Besides that it was all emotional hoopla. To be fair there were two good things about this comic. 1) you could pick up the comic and not be lost, this was part two of a story arc, but I could understand everything. 2) It mad it so that you can understand all fallowing issues.

Green Lantern #52 & Blackest Night #8

               I thought this comic (Green Lantern #52) was going to be amazing, and the first half was. The second half: "Not so much." The first half was cool, Sinestro was one with the white entity, he was one with life. He showed how each of the emotions came into existence,and how he was connected to all life. But right after the first eleven pages, Nekron takes his scythe and chops him in half. Come on! The reason I bought this comic is because I wanted to see Sinestro as the white lantern. This is happened way to much in the DCU the cool thing, or reason I bought the comic, is killed off in the first couple pages. While all this is happening, John Stewart takes a small group of lanterns in to the power source of the Black Lanterns. Then finally Sinestro mends himself. This comic was good, but not as good as I thought it would be. I will say that the writing was great when Sinestro was explaining his connection to life. Plus the panels were just as good, if not better. Otherwise the only great, stand out thing about this comic was that it almost concludes Blackest Night.

            Blackest Night issue eight was allot better than Green Lantern #52. Although before I start the review I have to say  I don't like the fact that if you read Green Lantern #52 and you are subscribed to it, you don't just have to wait for the next issue, you have to go and buy Blackest Night issue eight.
           Ok, I just had to get that off my chest. This comic was twice as good as Green Lantern 52. Sinestro is the White Lantern again, and is battling Nekron, when pow, Sinestro rips out Nekron's heart.  The a load of Black Lanterns come, and the many corps battle them. Then Nekron comes back. (Dead, ripping out of the heart can't effect him.) He rips Sinestro from the white entity. All hope was lost, until Hal Jordan, flies into the white entity, and gives all ring holders (plus, ex-superheroe black lanterns) white rings. They bring the Black Hand back to life, which cuts the cord between Nekron and the physical world. To add one more good thing, the Anti Monitor brakes out of the Black Lantern Battery and declares that he wont be their prisoner nor power source anymore. Then the rest of the comic is people being reacquainted with dead superheroes. (Since they all got white rings, they all came back to life) One thing I didn't like about that is Dead Man got caught in the crossfire and is now a living Boston Brand. I hope and think they will kill him off again, so he can resume his role as Dead Man. This comic was well drawn, story was good, and the writing was very good, all together a recipe for a good comic. Plus, Blackest Night is over!

Green Lantern #51 (Blackest Night)

If you have not read my review of Green Lantern 50: do so before reading this review

This comic was not that good. I loved Green Lantern 50 so I was very disappointed to read this issue. Hal Jordan is "guiding" Parallax . This was done in the pervious issue, so that they can destroy the Black Lantern Spectre. But when this is done and the original Spectre is freed there is a battle that takes up half of this comic. I wanted to see a fight between the Spectre and Nekron. So now there is no Parallax, a good Hal Jordan, and a good Spectre. The Spectre tries to defeat Nekron, but since Nekron has no soul the Spectre has no power over him. So the Spectre is destroyed.

I hated that, it had so much build up, and for nothing. That was a huge disappointment. I love the Spectre and to see him just cast aside like that, I did not like. Geoff Johns is good, but that was a mistake. That was the entire comic, just a mistake.

Justice Society of America: Blackest Night

The Justice Society of America faces it's biggest challenge when former (and deceased) members of the Justice Society return and cause mayhem. Allot of the story is a personal vendetta with Power Girl and Lois Lane of Earth 2. Usually I would not like this but they played it just the right amount and just the right amount of time. Featured in these three issues was another personal vendetta which I would have liked to see more of. Between The Liberty Bell and her father Johnny Quick. Some Black Lanterns when they arose told their previous loved ones that they love them. Johnny Quick did this too. They all turned against them. (Example: Lois Lane turned against Power Girl.) Johnny Quick never did turn against his daughter, which I thought was confusing. Even the reincarnated Mr. Terrific was evil. But Johnny Quick Died (again) telling his daughter that he loved her. Their were four major sections of the story.

1) Power Girl/Lois Lane

2) Johnny Quick/Liberty Bell

3) Fighting in the streets

4) Mr. Terrific, Dr. Fate, Dr. Midnight, Green Lantern/Sentinel and the Star Spangled kid making a bomb to defeat all the black Lanterns at once.

I know in a previous post, I said there was rarely any art in a comic that I would call better than average. This is one of those occasions. The way they drew the Black Lanterns was absolutely perfect, and on the cover the artist did something that made it all look very clean and nice. Which allot of artists can't do.

Blackest Night: Green Lantern/ Green Arrow

The first thing that pops out at you, even when you just look at the cover, is the coloring. It's hard to describe, kind of like smudged charcoal. I like it.

The next best thing is the story. It is Green Arrow, possessed by a Black Ring, and of course Green Lantern fighting him. On a side note: Green Lantern and Green Arrow have been teemed up allot, and the only reason

is because of the word GREEN but I think they make a good team up that's interesting to read about. Especially here. In this issue it shows what happens to you when you become a Black Lantern. While Green Arrow's "Black counter part" was fighting Green Lantern, and the entire Green Arrow family, he was spilling out secrets. He was trying to fight his "counter part" from "the inside out." As well as he was trying to silence his tung.

In most comics the writing is not great, but not bad. This one had great writing. It captured the voice of all it's characters, and was worded well. Over all I would say that this is a great comic.

Justice League Crisis on Two Earths

I am not one to learn directors or actors, so i'm not going to go on and on about what an amazing performance "Blah Blah Blah" had, but I will tell you that this was a good movie. The story was about two earths, and the destruction of all universes. Lex Luther of the second earth, came to the first earth to plead for the Justice League's help against the Crime Syndicate. (evil counter parts of the members of the Justice League) The theory of the infinite earths was that every time someone made a decision, a separate earth/ universe came into existence, where the person made the opposite decision, infinite people making infinite decisions creating infinite earths. I always liked the Idea of parallel earths and parallel super heroes so I liked this movie allot.

Green Lantern #50

I am a big fan of Geoff Johns, (see 1, 2, 3, 4) but now he has out done himself. The comic was well written, well drawn, but the best thing about this comic was the gimmicks. The introduction of Scarecrow to the Yellow Lantern Corps, and other heros and villains to other corps, was nothing short of brilliant. I was entranced, as Sinestro, and Hal Jordan released Parallax from his prison, to beat the Spectre. Who I have noticed is the main villain.

I have noticed one other thing, that I like and disliked. Sinestro has made a "friendly" acquaintance , with his rival Hal Jordan. I do enjoy the corps "teaming up" but I'm concerned that when Blackest night finishes in April, who will be Green Lanterns villain? This is one of the best comics I've ever read, and I recommend it to all, the rebirth of Parallax, is an amazing comic book. I compliment Geoff Johns more for this than his previous works with the Flash.
